ASCII to Image Converter

ASCII art looks right in a code editor and falls apart almost everywhere else. Paste your text here and download it as a PNG, drawn in a monospaced font with every space and line break exactly where you put them. The picture looks the same in any app, because it's no longer text.

How to turn ASCII art into an image

  1. Paste your ASCII art

Anything made of characters works: a drawing, a banner, a table, a terminal screenshot you'd rather not retake.

  2. Check the preview

Make sure lines aren't wrapping and the art is the width you expect. Choose a text color and a solid background (white by default).

  3. Download the PNG

Use it in a post, a slide, a document or a chat. The converter saves PNG only.

Why convert ASCII art to an image?

Social apps, email clients and many chat tools use proportional fonts or squash runs of spaces. Text art pasted there shifts out of line. A PNG doesn't depend on the font on the reader's screen, so it stays intact. Keep the text version too — it's still the easiest to edit. Our guide to ASCII art on X, in READMEs and in the terminal covers which places keep the spacing and which don't.

Tips for a clean result

Trim empty lines at the top and bottom before converting. Tabs are expanded to 8-column spaces automatically so the grid stays aligned. Very wide art makes a very wide image. If it's for a phone screen, aim for fewer columns.

Need ASCII art first?

Turn a photo into characters with the image to ASCII art generator — it already gives you a PNG alongside the text. Make big lettering with text to ASCII art. Grab something small from ASCII art to copy and paste.

Questions about this tool

How do I convert ASCII art to an image?

Paste the text into the box, check the preview, and download the PNG. No sign-in is required.

Will the spacing stay the same?

Yes. The image is drawn in a monospaced font, so each character takes the same width and every space stays where it was. Tabs expand to 8-column stops.

Can I convert ASCII art to a JPG?

The converter saves PNG, which keeps thin character edges sharp. Most apps that accept JPG also accept PNG.

Why not just take a screenshot?

You can, but a screenshot picks up your editor's theme, zoom level and window edges. This gives a clean image of just the art on a solid background.

Does it work with the output from the image to ASCII generator?

Yes, though that tool already offers a PNG download of its own. This page is more useful for ASCII art you made or edited elsewhere.
