What's in the library
Browse by subject: cats, dogs, hearts, flowers, skulls and the wider animal collection.
For occasions, try Christmas and birthday art. For expressions, see text faces, kaomoji and anime-style art.
Need something that fits a tight space? Go to one-line ASCII art or small ASCII art.
Where the art comes from
Most pieces are drawn or generated by Artgen. Letter banners use FIGlet fonts that allow commercial use, and a few are unsigned public-domain motifs. There is no CC0 work here. We don't copy signed art from other archives. Each source, license and count is listed on the sources and licenses page.
How to copy and paste ASCII art
Click the copy button on a piece, then paste. Multi-line art lines up only in a monospace font, so paste it into a code block, a terminal, a code comment or any field that uses fixed-width text.
On Discord, wrap the art in triple backticks (```) to keep its shape. One-line pieces work almost anywhere, including usernames and short bios.
Make your own
Turn words into big letters with the text to ASCII art tool. Convert a photo with the ASCII art generator. Save any piece as a PNG with ASCII to image.

Questions about this tool
Where do these drawings come from?
Most are drawn or generated by Artgen. Letter banners are rendered with FIGlet fonts that allow commercial use, and a few are old unsigned public-domain motifs. Every source and license is listed on the sources and licenses page.
Is this ASCII art free to use?
Yes. See the licenses page for each source and how many drawings use it.
Why does my ASCII art look broken after pasting?
The app is probably showing it in a proportional font, or wrapping long lines. Paste into a code block or another monospace field, or choose a small or one-line piece.
Can I share ASCII art where text isn't supported?
Yes. Export it as a PNG with ASCII to image and share the picture.
Can I make ASCII art from my own text or photo?
Yes. Use text to ASCII art for words and the ASCII art generator for images.
