How to copy and paste ASCII art

  1. Pick a drawing

Browse a category or search the library, then open the page of patterns you want.

  2. Click copy

Each drawing has its own copy button, so you get the full thing with its spaces and line breaks.

  3. Paste it somewhere monospaced

In Markdown, put it in a ``` code block. In chat apps, a code block or monospace formatting keeps it lined up.

Each drawing has its own copy button. Open a category page to browse cats, hearts, dogs, animals, kaomoji, flowers and the other library hubs.

Patterns are Artgen-generated layouts, Artgen originals, FIGlet letter banners, or unattributed public-domain folk ASCII motifs. There is no CC0 work in this library. Every pattern records its source and license; counts are computed from the files in this repo. See Sources & license.

Keeping the drawing in shape

Text drawings only line up when every character is the same width. If yours comes out slanted, the app is using a proportional font or removing spaces. Wrap it in a code block, or turn it into a picture with the ASCII to image converter. More on this in how to use ASCII art in a GitHub README, on X and in the terminal.

Make your own

Turn a photo into a drawing with the ASCII art generator. Write a name or word in big letters with text to ASCII art.

Questions about this tool

Are there smaller bears?

Most bears here are only three lines tall. Use the small filter to see just those.

Why is my bear lopsided?

The app isn't using a monospaced font. Use a code block, or send it as a PNG with ASCII to image.

Is there a one-line bear?

Not here. For one-line faces, try kaomoji.
